A point on a chain at which a branch is attached.
Notes:
  1. A branch point from which Math - note linear chains emanate may be termed an f-functional branch point, e.g. five-functional branch point. Alternatively, the terms trifunctional, tetrafunctional, pentafunctional, etc. may be used, e.g. pentafunctional branch point.
  2. A branch point in a network may be termed a junction point.
