The interstitial velocity, u of the carrier gas multiplied by the pressure-gradient correction-factor, j: \[\bar{u} = u\ j\] \[\bar{u} = \frac{F\ j}{\varepsilon_{\text{I}}}\] where F is the nominal linear flow, ɛI is the interstitial fraction.
