multiplicity (spin multiplicity)
The number of possible orientations, calculated as Math - ei, of the spin angular momentum corresponding to a given total spin quantum number (Math - symbol), for the same spatial electronic wavefunction. A state of singlet multiplicity has Math - ei and Math - ei. A doublet state has Math - ei, Math - ei, etc. Note that when Math - ei (the total orbital angular momentum possible) there are only Math - ei orientations of total angular momentum possible.
