scattering cross-section, Math - ei
The scattering coefficient per particle (Math - ei);
Math - e
where Math - ei is the number concentration of particles (Math - ei) and Math - ei is the scattering cross-section. Math - ei, the scattering component of extinction due to gas and particles, is measured in the atmosphere using a nephelometer. For a homogeneous atmosphere it is related in theory to the meteorological range (Math - ei): Math - ei; Math - ei and Math - ei represent the scattering and absorption coefficients per unit length for a light beam (of path length Math - ei) which has a spectral radiance (intensity) Math - ei incident on a sample of air and Math - ei is the transmitted spectral radiance (intensity), Math - ei.
