The preferential formation in a chemical reaction of one stereoisomer over another. When the @S05984@ are enantiomers, the phenomenon is called @E02082@ and is quantitatively expressed by the @E02070@; when they are @D01679@, it is called diastereoselectivity and is quantitatively expressed by the @D01675@.
