In meteorology, the size or scale of phenomena smaller than ordinary cyclones or weather
systems but larger than such microscale phenomena as the thickness of the boundary
layer, the wakes of objects, etc. Thunderstorms involve mesoscale processes, and other
meteorological events the size of cities are usually mesoscale processes.
