A spectroscopic method which measures the difference in @[email protected] of left- and right-handed circularly polarised light by a material, as a function of the @[email protected] Most biological molecules, including @[email protected] and @[email protected], are @[email protected] and show circular @[email protected] in their @[email protected] absorption bands, which may be used as an indication of @[email protected] Metal centres that are bound to such molecules, even if they have no inherent @[email protected], usually exhibit CD in absorption bands associated with @[email protected] or ligand-metal @[email protected] CD is frequently used in combination with absorption and @[email protected] studies to assign electronic transitions.
