encounter-controlled rate

https://doi.org/10.1351/goldbook.E02089
A @R05156@ corresponding to the rate of @E02086@ of the reacting @M03986@. This is also known as '@D01721@' since rates of @E02086@ are themselves controlled by @D01716@ rates (which in turn depend on the @V06627@ of the @M03814@ and the dimensions of the reactant molecular entities). For a @M03989@ reaction between solutes in water at \(25\ ^{\,\unicode{x26ac}}\text{C}\) an @E02086@-controlled rate is calculated to have a second-order @O04322@ of about \(10^{10}\ \text{dm}^{3}\ \text{mol}^{-1}\ \text{s}^{-1}\).
