A term used to describe a @L03587@ process that involves a transfer of ionic species from the @E02299@ to the aqueous phase in exchange for ions from the aqueous phase. The term does not imply anything concerning the nature of the bonding in the extracted complex. The term solvent @I03167@ is not recommended.
